Brothers Fish & Chips
Brothers Fish & Chips is a takeaway in Bushey, Hertfordshire. The problem
Takeaway customers search by dish and by town together, not by business name. A site organised around the brand rather than around that search gets found only by people who already know the shop exists, which is the opposite of what a new customer does.
What we built
- A dedicated local landing page built around the dish-and-town search, separate from the home page
- Restaurant structured data with opening hours, geo coordinates and postal address
- BreadcrumbList markup across all six pages
- Written by hand in HTML, CSS and JavaScript - no framework and no build step to break
- Security headers applied at the edge through a _headers file
People search for the dish and the town
Nobody searching for dinner types a takeaway’s brand name unless they already know it. They type the food and the place. That search deserves its own page - one with a title, a description and a set of structured data entirely devoted to it, rather than a mention halfway down a home page trying to do five jobs at once.
So the site has one, alongside the usual home, menu, about and contact pages.
No build step at all
This is the simplest site we have shipped and deliberately so. Six HTML files, one stylesheet, one script. There is no framework, no bundler and no build pipeline, which means there is nothing to upgrade, nothing to break on a dependency change, and nothing between the files and the browser.
For a takeaway whose site needs to change a few times a year, that is the right amount of machinery. A build pipeline is a maintenance commitment, and committing somebody else to one they did not ask for is how sites rot.
Honest note on speed
This is the slowest of the sites on this page, which is worth saying out loud. Hand-written HTML is not automatically fast - how images are sized and served matters more than the framework question, and there is headroom here we have not yet spent.
